Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Groningen University host a Summer Course: Hydrogen’s Role in Energy Transition: Perspective and Challenges

[Jakarta, August 24, 2024] – Green hydrogen is becoming increasingly important as we seek to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and enhance energy resilience. It’s production process, which utilizes renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, offers significant potential in reducing carbon emissions and providing a clean, safe energy source.
The UGM Energy Studies Center, in collaboration with Groningen University, held a Summer Course entitled “Hydrogen’s Role in Energy Transition: Perspective and Challenges” from August 19 to 23, 2024. The event took place at ERIC, Faculty of Engineering, UGM, Yogyakarta, and was attended by academics, practitioners, policymakers, and representatives from the energy sector, including the Ministry of Finance and energy companies includes PT PLN, PLN EPI, PT PERTAMINA, and PT Maxpower Indonesia. Bayu Wisnu Aji, Senior Manager of Business Development at PT Maxpower Indonesia, represented the company at the event.
The Summer Course consisted of several sessions, including presentations, panel discussions, and workshops. The event featured keynote speaker Prof. Eniya L. Dewi from the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, as well as international speakers from the University of Groningen and Kyushu University. They discussed the development of hydrogen-related technologies and policies, as well as the challenges and opportunities in the global energy transition.
The outcomes of the Summer Course include:
This Summer Course is expected to open up more collaborations between universities, policymakers, and businesses in developing hydrogen technology in Indonesia.
