Maxpower Supports Cultural Preservation through Iraw Tengkayu XV, Strengthening Community Relations in Tarakan

Tarakan, North Kalimantan, 5 July 2026 – PT Maxpower Indonesia (“Maxpower”) reaffirmed its commitment to building harmonious relationships with local communities by supporting the Iraw Tengkayu XV Cultural Carnival and Padaw Tujuh Dulung Ceremony through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in Tarakan, North Kalimantan. As a company that has long operated and grown alongside the people of Tarakan, Maxpower views the preservation of local culture as an integral part of building long-term relationships with communities surrounding its operational areas. The company’s participation reflects its commitment to preserving local cultural heritage while strengthening engagement with the communities where it operates.

Iraw Tengkayu is a long-standing cultural tradition of the Tarakan community, held as an expression of gratitude for the abundance of marine resources. The word “Iraw” means celebration or people’s festival, while “Tengkayu” refers to the small island from which Tarakan derives its name. Originally held every two years, the festival has now become an annual celebration and one of Tarakan’s most iconic cultural events, bringing together diverse ethnic communities in a spirit of unity and cultural diversity.

This year’s Iraw Tengkayu XV was held over two days and involved approximately 3,000 participants representing various cultural communities. The first day featured a vibrant cultural carnival showcasing traditional dances, artistic performances, and parades representing the many ethnic groups living in Tarakan. The celebration concluded on the second day with the Padaw Tujuh Dulung Ceremony, during which the traditional Padaw boat was escorted to the sea as a symbol of gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon the community.

The ceremonial Padaw boat was decorated in three symbolic colors—red representing courage and determination, yellow symbolizing honor and the Sultanate, and green reflecting harmony between humanity, the Creator, and nature. The three-tiered boat carried seven large offering trays filled with agricultural produce and traditional food as an expression of gratitude and hope for continued prosperity.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility commitment, Maxpower provided support to the Regional Board of the Dayak Youth Association (DPD PERPEDAYAK) Tarakan to assist in the implementation of the cultural celebration. The contribution supported part of the event’s operational needs while reinforcing the company’s commitment to preserving local culture, encouraging youth participation, and strengthening relationships with surrounding communities. For Maxpower, sustainability is reflected not only in delivering reliable energy, but also in making meaningful contributions to preserving the social and cultural values of the communities where the company operates.

“Culture is a valuable identity that must be preserved and passed on to future generations. Through our support for Iraw Tengkayu XV, Maxpower aims to contribute to preserving local traditions while strengthening the relationships we have built with communities surrounding our operational areas. We believe that business success is measured not only by operational performance but also by meaningful contributions to social and cultural development,” said Mr. Arie Wibisono, Chief Legal and Administration Officer of PT Maxpower Indonesia.

One of the participants of Iraw Tengkayu XV shared that collaboration between the community and the private sector plays an important role in preserving local cultural traditions.

“Iraw Tengkayu is more than just a cultural celebration; it represents the unity of the people of Tarakan in preserving our ancestors’ heritage. Support from PT Maxpower Indonesia encourages us to continue safeguarding this tradition so it can be passed on to future generations. We hope that strong collaboration between the community and the private sector will continue, allowing local culture to flourish and benefit the region,” the participant said.

Through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, Maxpower remains committed to supporting social, cultural, educational, and community empowerment programs as part of its efforts to create shared value and deliver sustainable benefits across all operational areas.
